PTFE Liner Tubing

Nordson MEDICAL's PTFE Liner Tubing is Fabricated Using a Film-coat Process that Creates Very Thin Walls

PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) provides a lubricious inner layer ideal for catheter applications that require low friction. Our PTFE liner tubing is fabricated using the same film-coat process used for polyimide tubing, which creates very thin walls.

Film-Coat PTFE Liner Tubing

What makes our PTFE liners different? We provide them on silver-plated, copper-core mandrels, so you don’t have to stretch the liner onto another mandrel. This allows you to:

  • Design thinner walls
  • Maintain precise IDs
  • Reduce assembly time
  • Reduce risk of adhesion issues

Removing the Mandrel

Our silver-plated, copper-core mandrels stay in place through the entire catheter assembly process. Our mandrels are malleable, which makes them easy to remove. When your catheter is complete, simply pull the ends of the mandrel outward to reduce the diameter, and your PTFE-lined catheter assembly will slide off.

Properties of PTFE

PTFE has the lowest coefficient of friction of any polymer, making it a popular choice for catheter applications that require lubricity. It also features:

  • Temperature and chemical resistance
  • Biocompatibility
  • Precise tolerances
  • High dielectric strength
  • Excellent insulative properties
